Little is known about FLY's history, although she is believed to have been built in 1842. Her builder is thought to Williamson’s but she has been a fishing boat all her life, working out of Maldon since the 1930s when she was owned by the Pitt family. She is thought to have been used by the water police at one time to patrol the oyster grounds. Re-built in the early 1980s, FLY is still sailing and remains in good all-round condition cruising French west coasts, between North Spain and French Brittany.
