Description
Sprat Skiff
Built by Kidby’s of Brightlingsea for the Norfolk family who played an important part in the local sprat industry.
Lilian has Norfolk carved into her transom so there is a definite connection to Alfred Walter Norfolk who was a prominent member of the Brightlingsea community. There were many of these skiffs built for this work but today only four remain.
Lilian was brought to Mersea by Tolfish and was owned by Arthur Vince and used for herring drifting in the 1960’s and 70’s.
Sold to Pinky Hewes she was in need of a rebuild which his nephew Mark Farthing took up in 2019 when he commissioned Gerard Swift to bring her back to life.
