Built by Ernest John Emeny known locally as Jack.

Spray was built in G.A Cock’s shed, West Mersea for Bertie Edward Vince & Henry William Vince (master).

Jack was born 15th Jan 1914 in Plomsgate Suffolk. His father was killed in WW1 on 8/8/1918. By 1939 the family had moved to Woodbridge where he starting boatbuilding. He married Joyce Sutleff in July 1943 and had moved to Mersea by 1951. living at Ranaleigh, Fairhaven Ave. They moved to 16 New Captains Road by 1955. He died 23rd Decemeber 1991. His widow died 8 Nov 2014 age 92.

Spray was built for Bertie and Henry Vince of West Mersea. Peter Clark recalls working her 1962/63 working her off The Bench “earning more in a morning than the Prime Minster “

She was sold to Caroline Ellis mid 2000’s, a boatbuilder who restored her. Spray was later sold to Oli Grogan, her present owner who has improved her greatly over the years and is often seen out racing.
